Well, I'm not that familiar to giving DA critiques, but I shall try.
Overall, this is very good. The walk cycle, to me, seems to be working perfectly fine. It's fluid it snaps exactly where it should.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but your intention in this is to make a very unique walk cycle for the panther, right? With a lot of character in it. It seems to be active, but, if that was your intention, you probably could go farther with all that hyper mood. It seems to me that, even if it's already stylized, it could be more exagerated.
How it's set is already fun, but if you make the ups and dows more extravagant, it could be even more. However it can achieve a funny look you may not want. But you experiment?
As for making the walk more unique, you could try to reference from other animals as well, ranther than big cats. The fossa here may give you some ideas and even the monitor lizard . here [link] and here [link]
I suggest a lizard because when I saw the pic you painted of the acidpanther it remembered me of a feline X lizard, as creature from the game Heart of Darkness. Idk, maybe it could work? All that waddle could be interesting.
Also, maybe that head could work better if it oscilated more, or if it stayed sort of down. And another question, did you change the character? On the pic I saw, the panther seems to be thinner and have a bigger head, which looked way more interesting.
One last thing to mention is the tail. It also could move more, but maybe not TOO much, otherwise it could be harder to read all the action going on the walk. Oh, and on the ups and downs, the tail slightly gains volume when the up on the hips are happening, while it should follow the action line.
But, yessss, i like this very much! (: I love the acidpanther design. You're totally nailing it! I hope some of the suggestions I gave may be usefull. It was more like an "acting" critique rather than technical stuff, but I guess it also counts too?
You are superb at animating! I am also an animator and the envy is just oozing in right now lol. Maybe we can chat about it sometime. I would love to get a personal behind the scenes of your short, seen it on vimeo randomly it was a real treat to the eyess, fresh.
Ok well this may not be instant messaging but since it's convenient.
While on my internet journey searches for animation, I kinda just stumbled onto the short film Fire Tiger Vs. Acid Panther. I swore it was like an Annecy Goeblins film due to it's fresh new style or moving artwork, it just seemed so awesome. It's weird finding the person who actually made it because sometimes it's easy to forget that these awesome things are made by people and not just artistic gods blessing the internet or tv screens near you lol. So I really just wanna pick the awesome brain that came up with this thing and brought it to life, something I am also trying to do myself.
I guess my first question would be:
Why are you so awesome? lol
Besides that though,
What were some of the really cool and inspiring ideas that came to you to, not only create this awesome concept, but that also caused you to also animate this wonderful piece?
Great animation! But I want to be a bit picky here- When I see this, the tail feels like it grows with every step. It's not moving very much, considering he rump is bouncing up and down very stylized. I suggest making the tail do the same.
Lengthening sounds good. And, yeah. Someone brought that up earlier. I had the legs delayed at first, but when I tweaked it, it must have slowed somehow. I will definitely pay more attention next time, though. Thanks!
Looks good, but something feels a bit off to me. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe the back legs are picking up too high? [link] <-- there is a good, but short at about 1:40 of him walking, and a few other shots throughout. Hope I was at least a little helpful!
The spacing of the inbetweens for the legs are a little bit too even and smooth. Space them closer to the extremes and I think it will look more natural. :3 The tail also should be pulled up by the hips, but it's lengthening in place (if that makes sense @.@) Otherwise, nice design on the cat! <3
Oh, the spacing thing? It's kind of like this: [link] (I hope the picture shows up, I just found it off Google) At the moment, your spacing is more like the top one, but the walk will feel more natural if the spacing is more like the bottom example. :3
About the tail, it should move up and down a little bit. Here's a video of a lion walking from the back~ [link]
