I've tried for years, but if the internet is accessible, I'm going to be on it. If a program designed to limit internet access has an uninstall button, I will uninstall it. I have tried giving my network card to friends, but that's a huge responsibility to place on someone. I have literally zero willpower.

My internet is one of those fancy usb ones, so I can just take the usb out and put it somewhere. If there was somewhere I could put it where I wouldn't just get it out again. My thoughts so far are some sort of time-accessible-safe or lock, but those are hell expensive and I don't think it's really an option.

You're all a bright bunch. What is something I can do?

I'm going to try using this: HabitRPG [link] (I have the same problem with internet usage) I figure since I like playing games, turning the habit breaking method into a game could work.

There's this program you can install to your computer where you can only open a certain amount of tabs (you can choose the amount of course) a day, it automatically closes your browsers and if you try to open it after the limit has exceeded it won't let you.
Well, I mean, you CAN TRY to open it... But you will get spammed with countless pop-ups telling you how horrible you are, and then when you think you've finally gotten passed it all, it trolls you again LOL

I don't know what it's called, though. I saw it on Tumblr a long time ago UnU;;
YOU CAN LOOK IT UP THOUGH ?? ...if you dare actually want the program LOL

Put it in a safe place that is just an absolute chore to get there or get it out. I'm not talking a minor inconvenience like putting it in a safe or locking it up in a lockbox, I'm talkin give it to a family member you'd really hate to ask for anything, put it inside a box taped inside a box inside a box inside a bag inside a box on the top shelf of your shed/garage/catch-all room. Do something with it that you are just going to sit there and say its not worth the trouble of digging it out. Until it is worth the trouble

There are settings in routers that will shut down internet access during certain hours. They are, naturally, removeable, but it's something. You can also try something like camping. Plan a trip somewhere outside of civilization wherever practical for a week. Do this regularly if financially possible and you can ween yourself off internet. Other than these options, yea you're looking at something like a timelock safe. Those are off the top of my head, I'm sure I can come up with other ideas given some serious time thinking about it. And I've got friends who are stunningly creative that I can pick the brains of too. :)

I haven't looked through all of the comments, but if you want to FORCE yourself, this program is a godsend:

It's the mac version, but I'm sure there's others. You can have either a blacklist of sites to stay away from, or a whitelist of the only sites you can visit. Once you start the clock, NOTHING will let you back on those sites until the timer runs out. I use it for schoolwork all the time.

Downgrade to a computer that can't upload Internet pages quickly and uninstall Adobe flash player.
I'm dealing with a terrible computer right now and, trust me, after trying to connect to the Internet and the average wait time for a page to load is three minutes you will simply not want to be on the Internet.

Also, leaving your house when you feel the urge to get on also helps!

Good luck!

could put the internet stick in a lock box and freeze the key in an ice cube.
that way you have to think ahead and decide to get online.

Funny how Confessions of a Shop-a-holic did this scenario and the main character STILL managed to get her credit card after using every single method.
